Let’s discuss: Your favorite free tools.

Sharing is caring, right? So let’s bring our collective minds together and share our favorite online tools. Are you using any free apps in conjunction with join.me? Any apps you might think someone who uses join.me would find handy? If you like an app, we might, too. So leave them here in the comments and tell us what you’re using.

I’ll start with mine: When I am using join.me, I also like to use Jing. It’s a cool little app that sits in the upper right-hand part of your screen (that’s a Mac thing; for Windows, it’s in the upper middle) and allows you to capture an image (or record) part of your screen and annotate on the fly. A great find.

  1. I use CamStudio to record sessions. I use DemoHelper to ‘draw’ on the screen. DemoHelper is no longer available, but there are other similar freeware tools available that let you use your mouse to draw on the screen. Also, when remotely presenting, good ol’ MouseTrails (Windows) works just fine for letting your viewers follow your mouse movements. Likewise, when presenting, I always set my theme to use ‘extra large’ cursors.

  2. Hey Maggie:
The app I use the most in conjunction with join.me is Photoshop. To show clients different choices is great and when speaking with other photographers, I am able to show them the workflow process vs. just telling them. This allows them to “see” the difference a little tweak can make.
Keep up the great work – join.me is my *find* for the year.

  3. Almost everything I use is free; I switched to Linux and opensource in general about 7-8 years ago, and haven’t looked back. I use joinme on a windows box at work to let people watch me design their kitchen.

Other free apps I use for windows are irfanview (image viewer), virtuawin (lets me have multiple desktops like I can in Linux), Geany (for coding websites), GIMP (instead of photoshop) and a few others I can’t think of at the moment.

  4. A great software I use is Tungle.me – aids me in all of my scheduling needs so that I can set an appointment easy (I don’t even have to be on the phone with someone) and then conduct the webinar, etc that we use join.me for.

  5. Other free apps I use along with join.me:

wufoo – free form creation for website
tungle.me – scheduling (works well with google calendar)
google apps – email, calendar, doc storage, etc
insight.ly – crm used in conjunction with google apps
    flow.io – project management
    logmein.com – remote access
    mailchimp – newsletter generation
    delivr.com – qr code generator
